We’re doing final preps for our mineral makeup seminar!
This Sunday, we’re hosing yet another informative and fun seminar (with the addition of a webinar) about making mineral make up, selling natural makeup and this time, marketing on a budget. Kim Platko, our wonderful formulator and friend, will be teaching a class on making dramatic eyeshadows, using Monave blended powders, such as versatile powders, and blushes. She’ll also be showing participants how to correctly melt down, color and fill lip gloss and lipstick into tubes, pots, and balm sticks.
Just in time for this event, Monave has launched three new products: vegan moisture mousse, (with coinciding vegan rose daily cream), vegan cream to powder base, and lip balm base. The lip balm base is shiny, takes color very well, and can be injected or poured into our new slim-line lip tubes, which are an easy fill option for making lipsticks, no mold necessary. The cream to powder is the perfect product to make any mineral makeup powder into a pressed or poured makeup. Featuring cute silver capped compacts, Kim will demonstrate how to mix, pour, and tidy up the cream to powders for professional sales, or personal use.
Webinar attendees will be able to watch from far-flung places and follow along with their own supplies’ kits of mica powders, iron oxides, lip tubes, lip gloss and liptick base.
Check back for pictures and reports, as well as videos of the classes!

Give the Gift of Healthy Beauty; Monave’s Holiday Gift Campaign
Hello!
I’ve been thinking about an email I received from a man who had recently lost his wife to terminal illness. I wondered if someone had taken the time to talk to her about the dangers of toxins in cosmetics, the atmosphere, food, and home care products, if it would have helped. Perhaps an article would have begun a process of education and lifestyle change? Sometimes, we can try all we want, and the information is not well-received. But it’s always, always worth a try if it saves someone’s life. And it’s always worthwhile when someone has more confidence because their skin looks clearer, and healthier.
So, to help spread the word, we’re going to help our loyal users introduce our makeup to a sister, mother, or friend, with a special program for this Holiday season, called, “Give the Gift of Healthy Beauty”. With some special treats (our way of making it fun), we hope that more women can become ambassodors of our product line. We still stand by our main tenents:
- Simple, short formulas with ingredients that are simple and easy to understand
- Ingredients that are both non-irritating (short term) and non-toxic (long term)
- Shades for all women. No ethnic group should be excluded from Healthy Beauty
- Women’s entrepreneurship. We all have dreams; tiny seeds in the beginning. Women are natural entrepreneurs, who just need some nurturing and mentoring to realize their ambitions
- Products that are easy to apply, stay put, bring out a woman’s natural beauty
We hope that as our customers share (many already do), our products with loved ones, office mates and teens, that they will also communicate these ideals. It’s not just about a product, but about the values that we express through the choices that we make.
So, for the Holiday Season, until the end of 2009, we are offering 20% off of any full-sized orders, PLUS a free sample of any full sized product purchased to share with a friend. For example, if Jenna shops online for her foundation (19.50), blush (12.00), and lip glaze (13.50), she’ll be able to subtract $ 9.00 off of her total. Then in the comments box of her order, she can list a foundation sample, blush sample, and mini-lip glaze for her best friend Emilia to try. She will pick the colors or let her friend in on it, and they can go online and pick her shades together. Then we’ll place Emilia’s gifties in a baggie, pop it in Jenna’s packaged, and send it all off.
If Emilia loves the products, and wants to order some for herself, her first full-sized order can also recieve the discount!
Please let others know about this special campaign via email, Facebook, however you stay in touch with the world. And if you’d like some materials to educate your friends, there are articles on allnaturalbeauty.com about lots of things, but especially about Healthy Beauty. We have articles online as well at www.monave.com/index.php?p=page&page_id=articles
Enjoy and share the Gift of Healthy Beauty this holiday season

Monave Mineral Cosmetics Fall Seminar
A flurry of women in all stages of the mineral makeup business descended on our warehouse on September 27th at 9am to participate in our final mineral makeup seminar of the year. The participants, one of whom came from as far away as British Colombia Canada, got to hear great information from a long time formulator on how to expand their mineral skin care line by using lip bases to create new products for continuing and future success. Another contributor, David Craig the owner of an emerging label company Arcana Graphics, gave invaluable insider tips on how to choose and use the correct labels to sell and market their products successfully. He also gave tips on what you need to know when having dialogue with your label company, it was an eye opener!
The highlight of this makeup seminar was the discussion on Intellectual Property and the ramifications of choosing a name that is being used by another company! Now that got the class hopping as several horror stories were exchanged! Deb Bilezikian, company owner, gave a class on using existing products in your line and combining or adding different pigments to create a whole new product. Imagine taking a mineral foundation adding a versatile powder and making a mineral eye shadow or combining two versatile powders and making a mineral blush. The possibilities can be endless! This makeup class was a seminar favorite too! The ladies were really impressed by this method of thinking outside the box!
There will be a video on the blending for new mineral skin care available for download on the website soon. A video from the previous makeup seminar on June 18th which features Julie Edwards, whose class on making mineral makeup for women of color was wildly popular, will also be available in the near future! See you next year for more great makeup seminars. Let us know what you’d like to learn!

Monave gets Beauty with a Conscience Award….Again!
Monave strikes again! Monave’s Moisture Mousse foundation got Editor’s pick as the best liquid foundation by the Natural Solutions magazine. Natural Solutions Magazine is a great magazine that is always chock full of information on health and beauty issues. For the past two years the Natural Solutions magazine has held their annual Beauty With a Conscience Awards, where natural and organic cosmetics and skin care companies are judged on various categories within the beauty industry.
The Moisture Mousse foundation is formulated for women with normal to dry skin, handmade with ingredients such as organic shea butter, organic jojoba oil and rose hydrosol it glides on the skin for a weightless feel and total absorption. Unlike other liquid foundation the Moisture Mousse gives excellent coverage and comes in all shades of our regular loose foundation with no color differentiation.
Last year, Monave racked up awards in three categories: Best Eye Shadow with our Versatile Powders, Blush with our Matte blushes and Cleanser with our Honey Clay cleanser , which they loved as a three minute mask too. We were so excited as we work so hard to get quality products into the hands of women who want natural beauty products that are beneficial for them. The Beauty With a Conscience Awards feature will be in the October 2009 issue of the Natural Solutions magazine…..don’t forget to pick it up!

Wow what a Seminar!
Monave’s Mineral Makeup Seminar a Success!
It was an incredible day of learning and networking yesterday at Monave; 12 participants from all over the country, and five speakers teaching topics ranging from making mineral foundation to applying it, to marketing it. Donna Maria from Indie Beauty workshop on utilizing social media, such as blogs and Twitter, was a real eye-opener for all of us. Most of us have been doing business the old-fashioned way for so long, and she helped gently get our minds thinking along more modern ways of communicating with our customers. Thank you Donna Maria!
Julie Edwards, was phenonemal, as usual. She runs a custom mineral makeup business primarily for African American women near D.C. It’s called Color and Soul Cafe. It’s a beautiful little spot, and women can get their whole makeup arsenal custom made, from the perfect shade of mineral foundation right down to their lipstick.
Her workshop helped participants understand the value of including all complexions in a line of color cosmetics. She also taught us how to see the variety of undertones and overtones reflected in darker skin, and showed us how to blend the perfect shade to match those tones.
I’ll post pictures soon!
Now it’s time to go put the chairs, tables and shelves back in order. We made a mess making makeup yesterday!

Private Label Mineral Makeup Opportunities
This is Deb, the owner
I thought I’d chat for a minute today about our business opportunities. Some of you reading this may be typical of today’s woman; worried about job loss, perhaps already feeling the pinch of either losing a spouse’s income, or facing reduced cash flow. Many of you may be also facing the limitations of work due to having children.
Working from home can defintely have its advantages. But if you are an eco-consumer, selling traditional cosmetics as a home-based business isn’t always suitable due to the toxins that are in the ingredients. Our team of wholesale reps often gets inquries from women wondering if they can represent, or sell our makeup from a home-based business. The answer is a resounding ‘yes!’
I’ve always believed in helping women achieve their dreams. Sometimes a dream may be as small as wanting extra income to put toward a vacation. It might be as large as leaving a secure job to start a family-based business. All of these are possibilities with the right tools, smarts, and determination. With this economy in mind, the Monave drop-ship program is an ideal way for someone to start a mineral cosmetics wholesale business with neglible start-up costs. Some basic samples and a cheap train case from a department store is all you need to get started. I believe in starting with a limited color palette, and working in broader choices as funds permit. 10 lip samples, 15 foundation samples, 10 eye samples, and 5 cheek colors is plenty to start, and that would total $60.00. A few basic brushes would bring the total up to less than $100.00
Monave mineral makeup is easy to sell because it sells itself. With a drop-ship program, you only order what your customers order, so you don’t need to waste precious resourcs on stocking up in hopes of selling certain makeup products. All you need to get started is a basic knowledge of mineral makeup application, samples, brushes, and a small advertising budget. You can use local papers, Craig’s List, flyers on coffee shop bulletin boards, your church, your kids’ school…the possibilities are endless.
So I encourage you to consider mineral makeup home-based sales. The first step is to name your business. The next is to get an EIN at www.usgov.com, and the third is to start ordering samples, and getting some practice applying to your friends and neighbors. Monave is offering classes this summer in mineral makeup application, mineral makeup sales, mineral makeup for different ethnic groups, such as latin, african-american and asian, as well as some great information about the legal aspects of starting a business.
Please let us know how we can help. No customer is too small at Monave. We’re here to help!
